I am excited to share some of the highlights of our Successes during the 2011 State Legislative Session:

• Our three bridges included in the Prop 12 funding

• Three major CDA transportation projects authorized

• Restoration of $1.7 million for homelessness services after being completely zeroed out

• Intense negotiations that preserved the right of taxpayers to receive compensation for use of public property by private companies (franchise fees – potentially over $100 million impact to city)

• Restoration to current city budgets of $1.75 million that was cut during 2011 session from reduction in city mixed beverage tax receipts

• Authorization for Dallas street car PID to assist in financing of this project

Election Day is May 11, 2013

To be eligible to register to vote in Texas, a person must be:

• A United States citizen;
• A resident of the Texas county in which application for registration is made;
• At least 18 years old on Election Day;
• Not finally convicted of a felony, or, if so convicted must have (1) fully discharged the sentence, including any term of incarceration, parole, or supervision, or completed a period of probation ordered by any court; or (2) been pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disability to vote; and
• Not determined by a final judgment of a court exercising probate jurisdiction to be (1) totally mentally incapacitated; or (2) partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote.

Residents can save money on utility bills with simple do-it-yourself projects and free materials

– With Americans looking to save money any way they can, the City of Dallas is offering a money-saving solution to its residents. The City of Dallas, through its partnership with the Dallas Sustainable Skylines Initiative, is offering a home energy efficiency and water conservation kit free to any homeowner or renter (with landlord permission) in Dallas. These kits will help residents live green and save green. Quick, simple fixes can lower utility bills, save water and reduce impacts on air quality.
The kit is a re-usable Green Dallas shopping bag filled with items including compact fluorescent bulbs, low-flow shower head, moldable caulking, clear window tape, faucet aerators, toilet tank leak-detection tablet pack, draft stoppers, foam weather-stripping, and other materials.

Requirements:
1. Must be Dallas (city) resident;
2. Must attend educational seminar to pick up kit

Reverse 911 Emergency Notification System

The City of Dallas Reverse 911 Emergency Notification System is used to rapidly send telephone notifications to residents and businesses in an affected area in the event of an emergency. The system will automatically call listed and unlisted telephone numbers (including TTY/TDD) within the area affected by the emergency and deliver a recorded message. If phone lines are busy, the system will attempt to redial those telephone numbers to make contact. If an answering machine picks up the call, the emergency message will be left on the machine. The City of Dallas assumes no responsibility if an emergency message cannot be delivered or is not received.

Cellular phone numbers are not automatically included in the system database, nor are Voice over IP (VoIP) phone systems. If you would like to be contacted on your cell or VoIP phone, you must register these phone numbers.
